Reading a Windows key: here’s how

Numerous Windows 2007 or Windows 2008 users are taking advantage of the offer from Microsoft to upgrade free of charge to Windows 2010. No Windows license key is needed to do so. You can find the Windows product key in certain hidden locations in the PC registry. In theory, experienced IT users can read a Windows key without an additional support program. In order to do so, however, a few steps are necessary. It is therefore recommended that you use a cost-free program such as the License Crawler, which can simply read the Windows license key. The tool is a key finder that allows you to easily find the Windows key in a few simple steps and then save it.
